Check the admissions page of every institution on your shortlist, and the visa requirements for your destination. Some UK routes, for example, require a UKVI-approved test.
Compare the formats
Both tests assess reading, listening, writing and speaking, but the formats differ. Look at official sample tests to see which format feels more natural to you.
Plan your dates
Leave time for results to arrive and for a retake if needed, before your application deadlines.
Use official preparation materials
Both test providers publish free and paid preparation materials. Practise under timed conditions.
